H Magazine Editorial – Goddesses of Radio

H Magazine spread

We shot this editorial in Malibu, California in March with Kerri Kasem and Ashley Marriott of The K-Pod, a very cool podcast. It’s now a major feature in H Magazine, a glossy mag popular in LA and New York.

We shot this in a beautiful meadow in Malibu, with a great crew. I had come off a plane from LA a couple of hours before the shoot, having just flown in from Haiti with about an hour of sleep. Kerri had assembled a great team & with lots of coffee, great energy and great people we got a shoot together that I’m absolutely in love with. I’m so happy to be able to finally share these images. I’ve been itching to get them out for over 6 months…

Copenhagen Fashion Week 2010 – Spring/Summer 2011

It’s only fashion but I like it.

I flew to Denmark for the second time in 2 months to cover Copenhagen Fashion Week for Getty Images and Wireimage. There’s something incredibly clean and crisp about Nordic design – I’m drawn to it. The Danes and their scandinavian companions tend to pull off some interesting shows, there’s a snapshot of that in the video below. There’s a lot more if you head over to wireimage.com and search for ‘Felix Kunze Copenhagen’.

Fashion week is 12 hour days of shooting one show after the other, lots of editing and uploads to the agency during the night, very little sleep, many turned down invitations to parties and a lot of mad fun on the press bus that takes us from show to show.

Apart from the interesting talent on show, notable at Fashion week were: the grace of Crown Princes Mary of Denmark, the appearance of fashion regulars such as James Goldstein (seen in the video wearing a cowboy-like hat), The Worlds Greatest Catwalk – a Guinness world records attempt for the longest catwalk, hosted by danish supermodel Helena Christensen with entertainment by Mads Langer and the general atmosphere in the crowd and around Copenhagen. I think the below gives a good glimpse of the atmosphere at the show.

It’s all about the bag

And of course the private jet was a feature of this shoot.

We had wanted to shoot with a plane and had talked about the setting something up, had chosen the wardrobe, the accessories and were working on actually getting access to the plane. It all fell together at the last moment and we shot for about an hour before boarding and flying to Belize.

The great thing about this shoot was that despite what I thought would occur, we had the ability to move the plane over a fairly large area, to enable us to shoot with the right light. The ground staff have the ability to move the aircraft in any direction on the tarmac, and I was directing it as if it was a model, what a load of fun!

Technically the shoot was fairly simple, I placed a large reflector to reflect white onto the bag and highlight it a bit, we realized quickly that we had to get all of the aircraft into the sunlight and have the sun shining onto the subject.

The bag is Dolce & Gabbana, the rest are items from the personal wardrobe of the client.

Marilyn

By now you’ll have figured out that I’m posting a bunch of fashion/lifestyle images taken on my recent trip to Mexico and the Caribbean. This is one of my favorites, I’m calling it simply ‘Marilyn’.

The dress is Roberto Cavalli, taken on a yacht off Tabacco Caye in the Barrier reef of Belize. We couldn’t have asked for more perfect conditions – the wind worked, the light worked and we had a great time, as usual.

Another beauty from the yacht – Beautiful flowing dress

This was taken during a shoot on the super-yacht we were on, we found a perfect combination of climatic conditions – a cool breeze, a clear day and the perfect temperature. I wanted a bit of movement in the dress and we wanted warm evening light. I shot with a wide lens to get the model to look even taller and accentuate the flowing nature of the dress. I think the composition really worked to achieve the ‘towering’ effect.

Huasteca – 1964 Chevrolet

Huasteca is a mountainous desert-type area just outside the city of Monterrey in Northern Mexico. It was probably one of my favorite shoots ever.

The production was largely done by the model, we arranged the car, the location – it was a dream combination. We picked out the jewellery  to match the Azur Chevy and the clothes to fit the location after having scouted it on the day I arrived to Mexico.

Tobacco Caye Water

Here’s another shot involving my recent client and water.

There’s a black and white companion image, where her eyes are open, it’s quite stunning – I’ll try post it here in the next couple of days.

Water, Beauty

This one is from a shoot a couple of days ago. We shot after lunch in shallow water near Tabacco Caye in Belize, where we were anchored. It’s an absolutely beautiful location.
